Compagnoni leads in Olympic women's slalom

Two-time Olympic champion Deborah Compagnoni of Italy skies aggressively over the course on Mt. Yakebitai in Shiga Kogen, central Japan, on Feb . 19 to lead the first round of the Nagano Winter Games women's slalom race with a comfortable 0.60-second lead. Compagnoni won the giant slalom crown at the 1994 Lillehammer Games and Super G event two years earlier in Albertville.
